CALICO THIEVES
CALICO THIEVES – LARKINS’ ALEHOUSE – SATURDAY 6TH SEPTEMBER – 7:00 PM
A night full of surprises, sharp wit, and genre-spanning music. Their set features songs of revenge and illicit love, cheerful gospel numbers about death, and a healthy dose of laughter and on-stage banter. Expect lead singer Sarah Weir to deliver good-natured jabs at her bandmates while Doug Field fine-tunes his guitar into increasingly elaborate tunings—before launching into rich harmonies, fiery fiddle solos, and blistering guitar licks.
Calico Thieves draw from a broad palette, covering everything from bluegrass, country, and murder ballads to old jazz standards, gospel, and the occasional bluesy original. They’re also known for inventive reinterpretations of classics—putting their own spin on unexpected choices like Britney Spears’ Toxic and The Dead South’s haunting minor-key version of You Are My Sunshine.
In 2023, the band performed at the Croydon Folk and Blues Festival and Kew Village Market, as well as a variety of pubs across south-west London, including their ongoing residency at the Northumberland Arms in Brentford. Their performances earned them praise from Radio Kent’s Doug Welch on his Upload program.
